The questions below are the ones customers actually ask us about Bhringraj Hair Oil, answered plainly.

How often should I use it?

Once or twice a week, before washing. This is the classical rhythm and there is no benefit in exceeding it. The scalp responds to the cycle of oiling and cleansing rather than to constant oil.

Should I leave it in overnight?

If you comfortably can, yes; overnight is the traditional full measure. If not, half an hour to two hours before washing is a genuine practice, not a compromise. Protect the pillow with a towel either way.

Is it too heavy for fine hair?

Used correctly, no. Fine hair needs a smaller quantity and thorough washing afterwards, not a different ritual. Apply to the scalp in sections rather than pouring over the lengths, and lather twice when washing. The sesame base is substantial but rinses clean.

Can I use it on coloured hair?

Yes. The oil is a scalp treatment first, and the herb and sesame carry no bleaching action. As with any oil, colour-treated lengths may release a little pigment into the oil during long overnight wear; the effect on the hair's appearance is none.

Does the massage really matter?

It is most of the treatment. Ten minutes of slow, sectioned scalp massage moves the oil to where it works and gives the roots the attention the ritual exists for. The full technique is in our scalp massage guide.

What does it smell like?

Of itself: green, nutty, quietly herbal. There is no added fragrance, because there is nothing in the bottle except the herb and the sesame it was infused into. The scent washes out with the oil.

When will I notice a difference?

Give it a season, not a fortnight. Ayurvedic hair care works through repetition, and the honest answer from the tradition is that the hair you have in three months reflects the care you give it now. The wider practice around the oil is described in the classical hair care guide and the weekly ritual guide.
